Sunseed yield declined in Russia during the 1990's following the breakup of the Soviet Union and the loss of massive State subsidies for agriculture.  Since 2001, however, yield has climbed steadily and significantly.  Area, meanwhile, has doubled since Soviet times due to the high profitability of sunflowerseed compared to other crops.
